EPA Delays Enforcement of Certification for Lead Safe Renovation, Repair and Painting

By Bradley S. Dornish, Esq.

If you have not yet taken the EPA approved RRP contractor certification class, and have work to do on your pre-1978 properties, you have a little breathing room. The EPA announced Friday, June 18th that it is postponing the enforcement of the requirement that contractors (and non-occupant owners) of pre-1978 residential units have completed the lead safe practices class and been certified until October 1. This does not mean that you do not have to follow the rules, which have been in effect since April 22nd. It simply means you and contractors working for you have more time to take the class and get the certification.

ACRE is sponsoring another class session scheduled for Tuesday, July 27th from 8am to 5pm, at the training center in Duquesne. Cost for ACRE members is $175.00, non-members, $199.00. Class space is limited, and another class will not be scheduled unless this class is full. Class includes written materials, classroom instruction and hands on training, catered lunch and certification for those who pass the test.
